Over the last few years everyone has been talking about hydration, the important of water, how much should I drink to avoid dehydration, how much water should I drink a day, if I am dehydrated how much water should I drink? How do I know if I am dehydrated? Many people are realizing that it is not just how much water, but what electrolytes, i.e. minerals are with the water, especially if you are perspiring heavily. Everyone perspires to some extent, even if it is cold. Well what do we do? Hydrate using a sports drink? What is in sports drinks? Minerals, yes, water, yes, but also sugars of some kind. Not the best to consume regularly. Besides drinking enough sports drinks to keep well hydrated may end up costing a lot of money over time.
Let me share a very simple cheap secret of rehydration. First I will share a simple test to see if you are dehydrated. Just pick up a pinch of skin on the back of you hand, pull it up and let go. A well hydrated person will have the skin snap back quickly. If it is too slow, you are dehydrated do some extent from what you should be.
Now before you race off an grab a sports drink, let me explain some back ground to my hydration program I have at: Hydration program
Research has been done on the cell membrane that found that the double layer of the membrane contains water in the middle. If dehydrated the fluidity of the membrane is lost and “friction” occurs between layers because are able to come direct in contact. Also movement of water and mineral ions are controlled by Magnesium. A cell should have sodium ions on the inside (Na+) and Potassium
(K+) on the outside. A dehydrated, acid and toxic cell contains Hydrogen ions (H+) on the inside. Acid means lots of H+ ions. The second point you need to understand is how minerals behave. In the first column of the periodic table (remember high school chemistry. ) elements are listed. Going down they are H, Li, Na, K. Each element in a column will displace the ones above it or below it depending on the abundance. So If you flood the system with Na and water with some magnesium you will get Na+ ions pumped into the cell to replace H+ which is exported out, taken into the blood and urinated out. Now you have Na+ in the cell that is not what we want, but if there is also K+ it will now go in and Na+ outside were it is supposed to be, we have balance the cell can take in and utilize nutrition, eliminate waste, produce energy and you are healthier and happier. The is true hydration, at cell level, and it includes mineralization. Researcher did this with 500mls water and minerals every 4 hrs, you can do the same thing by putting pinch of Celtic sea Salt (contains all the minerals including magnesium) on the tongue followed by 500mls of pure water every 4hrs. Not close to meals though as it will interfere with digestion. This is not rocket science.
I use Celtic Sea Salt because it has all 84 minerals and is the best I have found. Himalayan salt does not have the full 84 minerals and the mercury level is a too high for my liking. Our Celtic Sea Salt is has organic certification from the BFA in Aust and Nature in Progress in Europe demanding the all salt farmers pass mineral level and pollution standards. I considerable reservation about Murray Valley Salt, even though it is from Aust. because it is produced from the ground water of the cropped Murray Valley basin, Pesticides and all! Not coming from the sea it will not have all 84 minerals in it.
